To honour the 2014 DTM champion Marco Wittmann, BMW is preparing to launch a limited-edition M4, which will sell only 23 units.
Why 23? Because that was Wittmann’s actual racing number when he won the competition. To make the tribute even more apparent, BMW put the number “23” on the vehicle’s doors as well as “WIT” and “DTM Champion 2014” lettering at the rear, both of which are complemented by the German flag. Inside, owners will find Wittmann’s signature on the dashboard.
The BMW M4 DTM features 19-inch light-alloy wheels, carbon aerodynamic details and an Alcantara-covered steering wheel. Alpine White is the only colour of choice, with multicolored stripes adorning the trunk and hood.
Under that striped hood, the vehicle serves up a 3.0-litre twin turbo engine – the same one as on the standard M4. It produces 431 horsepower with a 0-to-100-km/h acceleration of 4.1 seconds.
Those who buy the limited-edition M4 will also get to enjoy a race car driving lesson from Wittmann himself at the famous Nordschleife track at Nürburgring in Germany.
Born in 1989, Wittmann competed in such series as Formula Three Euroseries and Formula BMW ADAC/Europe. Recently, BMW has also signed him as its seventh DTM driver in an expansion to four eight-person teams for the 2013 DTM season.
Speaking of 2013 – that’s when BMW launched a special-edition metallic black M3 to celebrate its victory at the 2012 DTM series and to honour the race car driver Bruno Spengler. The model sported stripes on the roof and trunk along with stickers on its rear windows. BMW produced only 54 models of the vehicle, which it sold for the base price of €99,000 (or $126,000 CDN).
The German automaker is yet to announce the price of the BMW M4 DTM.
