It’s becoming clear that Honda wants its upcoming Civic Type-R hot hatch to win the title as the most “extreme” Type-R vehicle the automaker has ever made – and now there is a teaser video to prove it.
The video that was released today features Suehiro Hasshi, the man behind the machine, as he explains what makes this car tick. Hasshi is the Honda Project Leader and the one who pushed the Civic Type-R Concept II to be what it is now.
Hasshi states that the Type-R will be unrivaled in performance, even when compared to the other Type-R’s from the automaker. Honda has made four Type-R’s in total: the Civic, NSX, Integra and Accord. Built on passion and emotion, this Type-R will be unlike anything that has come before it, Hasshi stresses.
Honda has combined a turbo engine with VTEC to create what it hopes will be one of the best engines on the market. With a 7,000-rpm redline and 275 horsepower, this vehicle was built for the track. The vehicle will also feature the first-ever +R button, which is supposed to improve performance on a circuit by tuning up the suspension, steering and torque mapping.
However, if you’re in North America, try not to get too excited since the new Civic Type-R isn’t scheduled to hit our shores (yet). The rest of the world will have to wait until next year to get behind the wheel of this hot hatch.
Watch the video to get all the recent details and see the car in action. Stay tuned for more information as this year’s Paris Motor Show looms ahead!
