Mercedes-Benz has just unveiled the all-new CLA Shooting Brake – the wagon version of the CLA-Class sedan. It will be available in standard form and the high-performance CLA45 AMG model.
The “Shooting Brake” name is meant to signify that this is a coupe-hatch combination as opposed to a pure wagon. This is because Mercedes considers the CLA-Class as a whole to be a coupe, even though it has four doors.
Opting for a shooting brake style will essentially buy you more room. The headroom in the rear is significantly better than in the four-door sedan CLA. The Shooting Brake has over four centimetres more headroom than the regular sedan does. The cargo space is also significant, ranging from 17.4 to 47.8 cubic feet of space, depending on the configuration of the rear seats.
The CLA Shooting Brake will come with a variety of engine variants, including two diesel and five gasoline engines. The most powerful will be the CLA45 AMG Shooting Brake, which will be equipped with a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine that can generate 355 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque. The 4Matic all-wheel-drive system will be standard on this model.
All CLA Shooting Brakes will some equipped with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission as standard, just like the sedan variant.
Unfortunately for Canadian consumers, this vehicle will not be making the trip across the pond, but we still have the CLA sedan to fit our compact needs.
The CLA Shooting Brake is one of the 11 confirmed Mercedes models to be revealed in the next seven years. The most recent reveal was the uber-luxurious Maybach S600, which was showcased at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
