British brand MINI is expanding its lineup with an all-new five-door vehicle, which is supposedly big enough to be associated with the premium compact family car segment.
Known as the MINI Cooper 5-Door, the new car will join the Countryman crossover, which was previously the only vehicle in the MINI lineup to feature five doors.
The body of the MINI 5-Door is 16.1 centimetres longer than its three-door sibling and 7.2 centimetres wider. The additional space will contribute to a roomier cabin – to accommodate family-oriented buyers.
The rear seat of the car has room for three passengers and cargo capacity also gets a bump to 9.8 cubic feet with the rear seat in use and 33.2 cubic feet with the rear seat folded.
MINI will also be introducing two new three-cylinder fuel engines available in the new model. The MINI One 5-Door and Cooper 5-Door variants will generate 102 horsepower and 136 horsepower, respectively. There is also a four-cylinder diesel engine that is available on the MINI Cooper SD 5-Door, which will produce 170 horsepower.
The look of the new 5-Door MINI variant is consistent with the recent MINI redesign, which includes the horseshoe-like signature daytime running lights as well as a new front grille, rear hatch and taillamp treatment.
Additional space will cost you extra, but the five-door models are only expected to cost around $1,160 more than their three-door counterparts.
The MINI 5-Door will be on display at the Paris Motor Show this October.
