The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X was rumoured to be on its last legs for a while and has since been confirmed as leaving the market after the 2015 model year, but before it does, it will get a special refresh.
Rumours have been flying about what Mitsubishi will do to send off the road-going machine and it seems as though the company will be producing a limited-edition Special Action Model Evolution X. Production will likely be limited between 2,000 to 2,500 units and destined exclusively for the United States.
As of now, the most noticeable difference in the SAM Evo X will be the bump in power for its 2.0-litre, turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 291 horsepower. There should also be a few other tweaks to accompany the added power, but it is still unconfirmed what those will be.
As of now the Mitsubishi spokesman, Alex Fedorak, has remained tight-lipped about the specifics of the SAM Evo X, only confirming that there will be a U.S. special edition for 2015.
The limited-edition model will likely hit the market during the last six months of the Evo production next year.
