Chevrolet Canada is offering driving lessons at the Ron Fellows Performance Driving School to all owners of a new 2014 Corvette Stingray.
The two-day program is worth $1,000 US, which works as a $1,500 reduction from the standard rate. The curriculum is located at the Spring Mountain Motor Resort and Country Club in Pahrump, Nevada. Those worried if their skill level is good enough for such a program should not worry since the curriculum accommodates drivers of all levels.
“We designed the Corvette Stingray to make its owners better drivers through technologies such as the Driver Mode Selector, Active Rev Match, electronic limited-slip differential and more,” said chief marketing officer at global Chevrolet Tim Mahoney. “Through the Ron Fellows Performance Driving School, they’ll learn to make the most of its technologies and delve deeper into the Corvette’s capabilities, resulting in a more exciting and fulfilling driving experience.”
The program was developed and currently managed by legendary Ron Fellows, a multi-time driving champion and class winner in every major long-distance sports car race, including the Rolex 24 at Daytona, the 24 Hours of Le Mans and 12 Hours of Sebring. A charter member of Corvette Racing, Fellows established his performance driving school at Spring Mountain in October of 2008. In 2011, he was also inducted into the Corvette Hall of Fame at the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Ky.
Chevrolet’s discount will last for one year after the retail purchase of a new Stingray and applies only to the original owner, with only one attendee allowed per car. Chevrolet does not, however, cover the cost of travel and accommodations – and since Nevada is not in Canada, it can be quite a trip. Luckily, there’s no need for owners to actually bring their Stingray to the school with them since there’s plenty of Corvettes on campus already.
The program participants will be able to drive a Corvette across Spring Mountain’s world-class 2.2-mile road course. The curriculum will involve three levels of instruction to accommodate novice and experienced drivers alike. Level 1 covers cornering techniques, dynamic car control exercises and introduction to Corvette electronic driving mode discovery, while Level 2 taps into progressive car control exercises, advanced cornering techniques and advanced use of Corvette electronic driving modes. The third and final level develops advanced lapping techniques and involves special guest racing instructors (which is always a plus, right?).
“Our goal is to ensure every driver leaves with enhanced driving skills, more confidence on the street and track and, most of all, a deeper understanding of his or her Corvette’s capabilities and how to safely enjoy the car to the fullest,” said Fellows.
