Ferrari is preparing for a launch of not one, but two new LaFerrari spin-offs next year, which will include the FXX racing car and Spider drop-top, CAR magazine has revealed recently.
The cars are predicted to be derivatives of the hybrid supercar, LaFerrari, which hit the market in 2013. There were only 499 units available and all with price tags of over $1.8 million.
One of the new vehicles, the LaFerrari-based FXX, is reportedly already getting its finishing details. It will be a track-only vehicle that is not yet approved for road use. The cars will, however, be looked after and trailered to different private circuit events for the owners’ enjoyment.
Powering this vehicle is a 6.3-litre V12 engine that, in combination with engine electronics and transfer of power from the pistons and the hybrid system, produces 1,050 horsepower. The car jumps from 0-97 km/h in less than three seconds and can reach top speeds of almost 350 kilometres per hour.
Only 30 LaFerrari FXX units will be produced and will be reserved for the world’s richest and most exclusive Ferrari buyers.
The second vehicle expected in 2015 will be the LaFerrari Spider, which is an open-top version of the spin off. The car is expected to be extremely exclusive with no more than 50 units being produced and will also see an increase in numbers, not in horsepower, but in price. It will have a price tag of almost double the normal asking price at upwards of $3 million.
Hybrid cars are becoming increasingly more desirable with plenty of brands embracing this technology, but the Italian-made LaFerrari supercars are undoubtedly among the best.
