Mercedes-Benz announced the starting price and expected delivery date of the new Maybach S-Class sedan, which the German automaker revealed at the Los Angeles Auto Show last month.
The Maybach S-Class sedan will cost 134,100 euros – or about C$194,464 – including value-added tax. Mercedes will begin taking orders for the vehicle immediately, which should roll into dealership show rooms as early as this February.
The Maybach will be sold as Mercedes’ sub-brand in hopes that the revival will help the automaker regain regain the ultra-rich clientele. Not only does the company want to capture these customers, but also overtake BMW and Audi in luxury-car sales by the end of the decade.
Mercedes fell behind BMW in car deliveries in 2005 and was overtaken by Audi in 2011. These setbacks came shortly after the company’s first attempt to bring back the 1930s-era Maybach as a stand-alone brand. This attempt was put to an end after a decade of disappointing sales figures and failure to attract buyers.
The new Maybach takes direct aim at BMW’s Rolls-Royce and Volkswagen’s Bentley marque. Mercedes has promised that this vehicle will take luxury, exclusivity and customization to new heights. The luxury automaker is also confident that the reworked interior is on the same level in terms of space, comfort and quality as anything else in this segment.
In other news, Mercedes has recently announced that it will be altering its nomenclature, with the upcoming GLE 450 AMG, which is conceptually linked to the E-Class, steering the brand in this new direction.
