Mazda has revealed the highly anticipated 2016 MX-5 Miata at special events in Los Angles, Barcelona and Tokyo, disclosing plenty of juicy details about the upcoming vehicle’s potential.
The most notable piece of news is that the all-new Miata is expected to be even lighter, faster and safer than its well-liked predecessor.
Mazda has confirmed that the fourth-generation Miata will weigh 100 kilograms less than its predecessor, featuring perfect 50:50 weight distribution that enhances its grip on the road and power usage.
The design of the car has also changed a bit since it now possesses a shorter and wider body than the third-generation models. The car sits closer to the ground, as does the driver, which is a result of the new dramatically-slanted hood design.
The interior also gets a refresh, adding better quality materials and finishes to the cabin. There is also the addition of a new touchscreen infotainment system. The space is still snug, which is appropriate for spirited driving. The seats are so snug that they practically absorb the driver, making them feel as though they are a part of the car, which is imperative for any vehicle that claims to be fun to drive.
There are some important details that Mazda is holding back. The size of the engine as well as performance figures will be kept a secret until the official debut in October at the Paris Auto Show. The vehicle is expected to go on sale next year, likely in the third quarter.
The Mazda MX-5 Miata accounts for only one per cent of Mazda’s global sales, but over the last 25 years, it has attracted almost one million car buyers, making it one of the best-selling roadsters of all time.
