General Motors Co recalled 971,000 more cars with defective ignition switches on Friday, March 28, expanding the total amount to 2.6 million. At least 12 deaths have been blamed on this defect, with all model years between 2003 and 2011 being recalled. The models include the Chevrolet HHR (smaller version of the Equinox), Saturn Ion, Chevrolet Cobalt, Saturn Sky Pontiac G5 and Pontiac Solstice.
GM Chief Executive Mary Barra will testify next week before Congress, where she will likely be forced to explain why it took 10 years to start this recall.
