The High Museum of Art in Atlanta, Georgia is set to showcase a handpicked collection of 17 most influential concept cars from the 1930s to the present. The selection includes vehicles from brands like Ferrari, BMW, Bugatti and General Motors, with the latter company being singlehandedly responsible for popularizing the idea of concept cars in the first place. Other things to watch out for during the exhibition are the original sketches, patents and models that have allowed these cars to be built.
According to exhibition curator Sarah Schleuning, the purpose of this assortment is to demonstrate how far the automotive industry has come and where it might be in the future. “The concept cars presented in ‘Dream Cars’ demonstrate how design can transcend the present and offer new paths and opportunities for the future,” she said. “While these cars were never mass-produced, they shaped the future of the automotive industry by challenging the notion of what is possible, technologically and stylistically.”
Dubbed “Dream Cars: Innovative Design, Visionary Ideas”, the exhibition is set to open on May 21. Expect to see intricately designed cars only – this means no Toyota Matrixes or Honda Civics.
