The Results Are In! Here Are The Top 5 Cars Canadian's Can't Resist

car-lot_100234026_lAs the economy slowly drags itself out of the slump that nearly bankrupted the biggest automotive companies in the US, car sales are now breaking records. The automotive industry is now nothing short of cut-throat, with competition between manufacturers at an all time high there is no shortage of quality product on the market. People are realizing that buying a new car today is a worthy investment. And if you feel the same way, here are the top 5 most popular vehicles in Canada (compiled by DesRosiers Automotive Consultants Inc. on the best-selling vehicles during first 10 months of the year).

Ford keeps getting it right with the F-150

In an era of cringe worthy gas prices, surprisingly the Ford F-150 is dominating Canadian car sales accounting for almost twice the second place Dodge Ram. This is no surprise seeing as the F-150 broke sales records in Canada last year, being the first vehicle to achieve the 100,000 sales mark. With all truck sales taking a 10% leap in the first 10 months of this year, it seems contrary to belief, that Canadians have more of a passion for trucks than Texans, where truck sales are lagging. The anticipation of the refresh expected to be seen in 2015 will only see a continued trend of big sales, if not an increase.

15 years later, the Civic is still the best selling car in Canada

The Honda Civic holds the title as the best selling car in Canada. Sales are up a whopping 36% from last years, clearly they have something right, especially considering the Civic has been the best selling passenger car in Canada for 15 consecutive years. With reliability and fuel prices on the Canadian consumers mind, the Civic hits the nail on the head. As time progresses and small tweaks and fixes are made to the Honda Civic, there is nowhere but up to go.

Bland and reliable is Canada’s third most popular choice

007-2014-toyota-corolla-europeCanadian buyers are done with blandness, and the 2013 Corolla increased in sales after its exterior refresh. The Corolla has usually been as boring to drive as it is to look at, but with more aggressive styling it seems to have hit a note with the buying public. Canadians have always loved Toyota’s reliability and fuel efficiency, which is why they had nothing but steady sales with the Corolla since the beginning of it’s existence.

Could the 4th place Mazda 3 be the best car on the market?

When someone asks me what car I recommend for them to buy, I always try to ask them what they are looking for because the car you buy depends solely on what you need out of it. There is no car that can do everything, but the 4th best selling passenger car Mazda 3 is as close as one gets. When someone wants a no frill, simple answer of what car I recommend, it is always the Mazda 3. With their recent re-styling and new intelligently engineered skyactiv engines, I consider it the best car on the market, price considered.

Honda Accord more that doubles its sales with a refresh

An honourable mention is deserved for the Honda Accord, although it came in on 10th on the list of best selling passenger cars. In 2013 Honda Accord sales increased a staggering 139% . Their 2013 refresh obviously hit all the right buttons with the Canadian buyer and that is to be commended!

What Canadians want most is genuine quality

SUV sales are up 10.2% and luxury compact SUV sales are up even more. As a platform I thought would be extinct when gas went over a dollar per litre, it turns out Canadians aren’t looking for the compact fuel sippers like once predicted. It seems Canadian’s money goes to the company who can provide the most standard equipment and overall luxury. Another testament to this is the fact that GM’s divisions of Cadillac and Buick are finally seeing some reasonable sales. The threat of bankruptcy of the major car brands of the US really whipped them into shape. We are seeing quality in quantity and no signs of slowing down.
