Detailing your ride can be a pretty pricey event, with some jobs costing well over $100! Instead of handing over your cash to somebody else to get the job done, keep your wallet safe from thinning out by learning to clean and detail that car yourself.
Use a Stiff Brush and Air Compressor
If you really want to get into the little nooks and crannies of your car’s interior use a device that blows out compressed air. You can blow the debris onto the carpet and then take a vacuum to the rugs and suck it all away! Stiff brushes are great tools for loosening up dirt that may have gotten into the carpet’s fibers.
Hand Wash
Want to make that Toyota Venza look road ready? Give it a good old-fashioned hand car wash. Be sure to use a car cleaning solution when washing your vehicle as opposed to regular detergents (those can strip protective waxes).
Clean and Polish the Paint
Detailing experts say that often a hand wash won’t completely clean your car’s paint! Pollution and bird droppings eventually take their toll, leaving the paint dirty and feeling rough to the touch. Use paint cleaner to get rid of ALL the grime, and then take a polish and an oscillating buffer to polish it perfectly.
Protect with Wax
Use a little of that wax on, wax off method to keep your vehicle clean and protected just like the pros! Eventually car wax wears off so it’s important to use two coats of the stuff in order to make sure your paint is fully protected. Some people like using paste, others go for a liquid wax – the choice is really up to you as both work just fine.
Clean Windows (at the End!)
Grab a glass cleaning solution without ammonia and a microfiber cloth to get your windows sparkling. Dirt usually falls on a vehicle’s windows during the other cleaning steps, which is why so many detailers choose to wipe the glass last!
